In memory of Walter Foster

Members of the association of Ciudadanos Europeos for many years were participants in the annual charity sponsored walk organized by Walter and Vera Foster. When they decided to give up this arduous task because of the strain it was making on them physically after 15 years, our association asked them if they would help us to organize the continuation of this wonderful event. Both agreed, so our association organized the first walk in the year 2004. Also Walter very kindly agreed to spend the funds for us after the events, continuing the practice that he had so successfully managed for so many years. Up until the week before his death he was still contacting the various handicapped groups of the island to organize funds for their excurions. We have received word from many of these groups as to the great loss that we are all feeling by not having Walter in our lives to help and guide us as he always did in the past.

This years walk, held in April, was the first time that Walter was unable to attend because of his health. However, to date, there is a total sum of 9.900 euros in the account with more coming in. Our association will do our very best to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from this money during the forthcoming autumn, winter and spring.

The assocuiations that have benefitted from the Walk funds for the last 4 years have been:- AMADIBA, AMATICIA, ASNIMO, GASPAR HAUSER (Autistic Children), JUAN XXIII (Inca), THE ANGLICAN CHURCH and AGE CONCERN. All have received funds for excursions, summer camps and in the case of the Anglican Church, funds to carry out structural changes allowing access for handicapped people.

We sincerely hope that we will be able to continue the charity sponsored walk and all those who will benefit from it will remember Walter Foster, a man of personal sacrifice in benefit of the less fortunate in our community.
